I was born with a talent to draw. Although as a child this talent often times felt as though it were a burden. I was very active throughout high school and enjoyed playing basketball. I as a continued to perfect my basketball skills in hopes of someday playing professional ball. My artwork became no longer of importance in my everyday life. At the time I figured being a starving artist was not the life to live. Although, God had a different plan for my life .
In Fall of 2001 I discovered my talent as an artist. It was the day after I had made the High School Mansfield basketball team & signed with Page Parks Modeling that my life changed forever. The path to success that I had been following down was changed forever.
I was out for a run when I was unexpectedly hit by a vehicle. I remember waking up in the hospital to find all my dreams were shattered! I had suffered a traumatic head injury, my skull had been fractured in five different areas and as for my face well lets just say no more modeling for the time being. I would no longer be able to play basketball due to the head injury and Page Parks Modeling would have to be put on hold.
While as the hospital, a friend of mine Michael Nelson visited me offering words of encouragement and inspiration. He was able to look past everything that had happened. Michael asked me, “Are your hands ok?” I looked at him with a blank stare and than he asked again, “Are your hands ok?” With tears in my eyes i replied, “My hands are fine, why?” Michael replied, “As long as your hands are fine that is all that matters. You can still draw.” With everything I had lost he showed me all that I had gained and reminded me of my “Hands of God.”
God always has a way of leading us towards the right path when we tend to stray away. My art is truly a blessing from God. I feel as though my artwork is created through the “Hands of God” and I have no right to call this talent my own. Therefore my mission is to give to the one who has blessed me with such an amazing talent by spreading the love of our Lord.
Although Hands of God is not a not profit organization my hope is that it someday will be. As for now I am using my talent to raise money to bless the lifes of those in Turkana, Kenya.
God Bless, Joy Hahn
